How about vehicles having two batteries. One in the vehicle running it and the other at "home" being charged by a solar array on the roof. If it is cloudy or otherwise unable to charge then a smart charger would charge the battery during the night when electricity is cheaper. A means must be found for the battery to be removed and replaced because it is difficult for the average person to do. The array and charging station would be financed through a tax or lien that goes with the real property, but could be sold separately. The array and charging station could also be sold with the vehicle. If vehicle batteries are charged directly at home then that much generating capacity and transmission grid doesn't have to be built. 30% of generated electricity is spent pushing it through current transmission wires to the end user. Vast fields of electrical generation or wind towers meet resistance from ecological activists as do electrical transmission routes. Personally I like the idea of knowing that I have a fully charged battery ready to go in the morning for my daily activities.

Pleased to see you are in Ontario - would you consider British Columbia given the new report out from Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions has shown a surplus capacity to support 2.5 million electric vehicles in that province? It would make it a better place, that's for sure....
